ABOUT DEON

Despite the fact that I have suffered from chronic asthma from the age of 2, and as a result, was never able to participate in athletics, I had never had an issue with weight. It wasn’t until I was in my 40’s, that I gained over 40 extra pounds (thanks, hormones!). I was feeling unhappy with my appearance and was depressed as a result. I joined a gym the same year that I turned 50 and started resistance training 5 days/week. I also made changes to my diet. I began tracking my macros and eating whole (not processed) food. As a result of these simple lifestyle changes, I was able to build muscle, reduce body fat, and completely discontinue my asthma medication — which I haven’t had need for since! It was a WIN WIN…not only did I lose weight and gain confidence, but issues with my asthma essentially disappeared!!

My competition journey began at age 51. In my first contest, I competed in the Figure Division. A few months after that, I learned that I would require a total hysterectomy to remove a large uterine fibroid. It was during the recovery period from this surgery that I made the decision to transition from the Figure to the Bikini Division. I was determined to remain with the sport and compete again! In 2017, I set a goal of winning my PRO Card as a Bikini competitor. I began prepping for my first Bikini contest only 6 weeks post op and competed at 3 ½ months post surgery. After that, I competed in 6 more events for a total of 7 shows in 9 ½ months. Through hard work, dedication and determination, I was able to realize my goal of turning pro…and I did it all in my 50’s!!

Even though I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and the obstacles I was able to overcome, I’m even more excited to SHOW you that it’s possible to overcome whatever struggles you have to face. I want to TEACH you that it’s ok to step outside of your comfort zone and push past your limits. I want to HELP you reach those goals you never dreamed possible!

ABOUT STEVE

My interest in resistance training began when I started researching articles and studying the sport in my 30’s. I was resistance training six days a week two hours a day. However, back then I knew a very limited amount about nutrition. As a result, I was able to get fit, but wasn’t able to acquire much muscle mass. I continued with consistent training for a few years, but eventually drifted away from it, and thus began my “dad-bod”.

About 3-4 years ago, I resolved to do something about my “dad-bod” and get back to looking and feeling better. I joined a gym and began resistance training again as well as educating myself more about the nutrition aspect of fitness. In doing so, I noticed that I was making progress and I was losing the “spare tire” around my waistline. With proper training and nutrition, it’s incredible how much you can change your physique…no matter what your age! At 55, I feel I can be an example of what can be achieved when you commit to a goal.

Fitness has impacted my life in many ways. Not only was I able to achieve my personal goal of becoming an IFBB PRO,  but I’ve realized that I can make an even greater impact on the health and lives of others by helping them reach their goals as well.
